The most unique feature of APA style is the use of a running head on all pages. The works are to be cited under the heading of ‘References.’ Footnotes are not permitted for citation purposes.
- Chicago style: The Chicago research paper style offers two types of research documentation: the humanities method and the scientific method. The scientific method is also known as the author-date method as the in-text citations imply that order. The scientific style is preferred by social sciences whereas the humanities style is used often by arts and literature. The works are cited under the heading of ‘Bibliography.’ Footnotes and endnotes are also used in Chicago style.
There are certain other styles also which are used for the documentation of researches in certain subjects but these three are the most preferred research paper styles for academic research papers. Each of these styles has their own rules regarding the fonts and the formatting, which you should learn from the style manuals. Remember that these rules are updated once in a while. Hence while referring to the style manual, make sure that you are using the latest version.
